Shocks & Struts
Front and rear units checked for leaks, rebound behaviour, mounting integrity, and dust-boot condition.
Springs
Front and rear coil springs, leaf springs where fitted, air suspension bags. Uneven ride height is the first flag.
Control Arms & Bushings
Front and rear control arms, bushing condition, subframe mounting, and play under load.
Ball Joints & Tie Rod Ends
Wear in the primary wear points. Loose ball joints produce knocking over bumps; loose tie rods produce steering play.
Sway Bars & Links
Anti-roll bar condition and the end-link bushings. Worn links produce rattles over small bumps.
Steering Rack & Play
Steering rack boots, tie-rod attachment, power steering assist, steering wheel play at center, idler arm, and center link on trucks.
What the Road Test Reveals
- Pulling left or right — alignment drift, worn suspension component, or tire issue.
- Clunk over bumps — worn ball joint, sway bar link, or control arm bushing.
- Harsh ride — failed shock or strut, overloaded springs, air suspension leak.
- Steering wandering — loose tie rod ends, worn idler arm, or inflated-pressure mismatch.

Air Suspension — A Special Case
Cars with air suspension (Range Rover, Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi Q7, Lexus LX, Toyota Land Cruiser with KDSS) require specific checks. A leaking air suspension strut is a costly repair, and the compressor itself is a significant additional expense.

What are the most common suspension issues on UAE cars?

How is wheel alignment checked during inspection?
On the road test — the car is driven in a straight line with hands light on the wheel. Pulling consistently left or right, along with uneven tire wear observed during the tire check, indicates alignment issues. Precise alignment measurements require a specialist alignment rack.
