Brake System Inspection — UAE

Brake Inspection — The Safety Check That Can't Be Skipped

In UAE temperatures, brake fluid absorbs moisture twice as fast as in temperate climates, pads wear faster from stop-go traffic, and warped rotors are routine after 50,000 km of motorway braking. A used car with failing brakes is sold silently. The 16-point brake check makes the problem visible.

The 16-Point Brake Check

Pads & Shoes

Front pads, rear pads, and brake shoes on drum-brake models — thickness measured from the wheel opening.

Rotors & Drums

Front rotors, rear rotors or drums — surface condition, lip depth, uneven wear patterns, heat-checking.

Calipers & Cylinders

Front and rear calipers — seizing, boot damage, pin movement. Wheel cylinders on drum-brake rear axles.

Master Cylinder & Booster

Brake master cylinder for fluid leaks and corrosion. Brake booster vacuum integrity and pedal assist function.

Lines & Hoses

Metal brake lines for corrosion and flex points. Rubber brake hoses for bulging, cracking, and age hardening.

Parking Brake & ABS

Parking brake holding force, cable condition, electronic parking brake motor operation. ABS module fault codes and warning light status.

Brake Problems Detected on the Road Test

  • Pulsation under braking — warped rotors from sustained high-speed braking.
  • Pulling left or right — seized caliper, pad material imbalance, or alignment issue.
  • Soft or sinking pedal — internal master cylinder leak, air in the hydraulic circuit, or boosted leak.
  • Grinding noise — pad material worn through to the backing plate, rotor damage.
  • ABS activation on dry pavement — wheel speed sensor fault or contaminated tone ring.

Brake Fluid Condition

Brake fluid is hygroscopic — it absorbs water from atmospheric humidity. In UAE conditions, brake fluid typically requires replacement every 2 years rather than the manufacturer-stated 3-year interval. The inspection includes:

  • Fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir
  • Colour and clarity (dark or cloudy indicates moisture absorption)
  • Expected service date against the stamped service record

Frequently Asked

What does a brake inspection include?

The InspectCar brake inspection covers 16 checkpoints — front and rear pads, front and rear rotors, brake shoes and drums where fitted, all four calipers, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, brake booster, brake lines, brake hoses, parking brake and cable, ABS system, and brake pedal feel.

How do you measure brake pad thickness?

Through the wheel opening with the wheel in place using a tread-depth-style caliper on the visible pad. If a more precise measurement is required, the inspector may note it as a caveat — wheel removal is outside standard inspection scope.

Can you detect warped rotors without a test drive?

Partially visual (uneven wear, lip depth, surface cracking) but primarily confirmed on the road test — pulsation through the brake pedal under moderate braking at 60–80 km/h indicates warped rotors.

What about the ABS system — can you test it?

OBD scan reads any stored ABS fault codes, wheel speed sensor codes, and hydraulic module faults. Physical testing (a hard stop on gravel or wet pavement) is only performed when it can be done safely.

Which package includes the full brake inspection?

The AED 399 Comprehensive package. The AED 250 Body & Computer package does not include mechanical brake inspection beyond OBD ABS codes. The AED 99 package does not cover brakes at all.
